Default A guide to North country flies and how to tie them by Mike Harding

Morning folks..

Th name of Mike Harding probably counjors up images of "The Rochdale cowboy" of the 1970's, however , as i am sure most of you know he is a long time fly fisherman and regular contributor to fly fishing and fly tying magazine.

I was introduced to spider fishing last year when i visited my family in yorkshire and spent a day on the wharfe at bolton abbey, i have been hooked ever since..

ok so during the course of my research into the method i came across the above mentioned title, with a release date of nov 2009, well i pre-ordered it, and have just recieved a package from amazon...

The format of the book puts me in mind of the publications of Peter Gathercole, a hard backed book with a spiral bound spine which means the book lays flat when opened (very useful when tying).

The book has a nice intoroduction to north country flies, basic methods used for tying , materials etc then the main body is split up into 5 main sections

classic spiders
slim bosied nymph spiders
north country winged flies
bumbles, bustards and beads
fishing north country flies

it is well written and the photography is superb...

The RRP is £14.99, however at the moment on Amazon you can get it for £10.49 with free shipping a bargain IMO

I would say it would b a welcome addition to any fly tyers bookshelf.

I was expecting to pick up a copy at the BFFI tomorrow and it sounds like it's going to be money well spent. I wonder if they're going to be doing a special show price?

Malcolm Greenhalgh also has a new book out "Fishing Flies" - quite comprehensive - he was punting it a Bolton tyers on Tuesday and will have it at BFFI at the weekend for signing.

The Gathercole series are nice because you can open them properly whilst tying.
