Default The loch fishers bible/stan headley

what can i say stan has produced a masterpiece of literature, with this book ,and will surely ,no definately go down as a classic ,and to be honest i thought it would be in here already....................
a basic biology of trout, different types of loch - from the shallow, fertile, lime-rich waters of Orkney, Caithness and the machairs of the outer isles - to the deep glacial trenches in the more mountainous regions There are sections on tactics in different seasons and weathers, line choice and flies.

there is chapters on some of the author's favourite waters, loch tactics for salmon and sea trout and a look at just what might lie ahead for fly fishers and for trout and salmon in Scotland

Not a view I would take, I will be honest I am no great lover of some of Mr Headleys written word & whilst I have not read it the few snippets I have give me no reason to change my mind. I can see it appealing to the newcomer or southerner not versed in wild waters but to a die hard trad man like myself nothing there for me. Sorry but there you go.

As a river angler who is gradually doing more and more stillwater fishing, I find Stan's magazine articles to be top drawer. This book is definitely on my 'to buy' list.

I have this book and although I learned very little I found it to be written with much humour and enjoyed it.

Got to agree. First class instruction with great humour to keep it from getting too "dry".

If you haven't read it,then how can know who it might appeal to.Better to keep your trap shut unless there is some other issue....

Talking

I have the fishing bible and the loch flies of scotland books. And think there both top notch, and frequantly refer to them both.
A friend of mine fished a junior otfa comp in kirbester loch many years ago.
Stan was our guile and neither my friend or i had even fished a fly before. My friend came first and i came third, so he knows his stuff, and must have plenty of patience with the 2 of us whipping away like lion trainers.
