Default The Trout , W.E.Frost & M.E Brown

I picked up this gem in a secondhand book shop in Brecon, it is part of the Fontana New Naturalist collection...

This is one of the best books i have ever bought, it is a sciencetific look at the brown trout, anatomy physiology, habitat, water chemistry, distribution and behaviour are all covered in terrific detail and though it has a great deal of scientific content and as someone "in the game", it is very well written and presents information is a simple but non patronising manner.

Anybody who is serious about fishing for wild brown trout should track down this volume.... i would stick my neck out and say this is probably the definitive book on brown trout...it gives a deeper in site into the habits of trout and where they are to be found this can only be of benefit to the angler.

ISBN 0 00 632285,

a quick search online suggests you can pick it up second hand for about a fiver, money well spent IMO

I have to agree this is the go to book for anyone interested in the ecology of the Trout. There are books that update the science but few that are readable by the novice.

I have two The hardback original from Collins dated 1967 and a paperback from Fontana dated 1973. The later one has a couple of updates in it but is basically the same book.

I would agree this book is a must have for any trout fisher with an interest in his quarry.

I too have an old Collins from the 1960's, which is looking pretty tatty now

all the best

Morty

Winny Frost helped me research WRT. She was such a cool chick; I would have loved to have known her. Fancy having someone like THAT in your village!

Margaret Brown was 'hot' too... she married fellow-zoologist Professor Varley (St. Hilda's Oxford).

There's a big difference between hot and cool.
