Default Classic Safari, Shikar, and other sporting/adventure books

Having read and enjoyed a few great vintage sporting books like John Henry Patterson's The Man-Eaters of Tsavo, Capstick's Death in the Long Grass and Jim Corbett's Man-Eaters of Kumaon, The Man-Eating Leopard of Rudraprayag, and The Temple Tiger and More Man-Eaters of Kumaon, what other vintage sporting or safari adventure books would member's recommend?

It doesn't have to be strictly Africa or India. There was quite a bit of this sportsman-adventurer writing done back in the colonial heydays.

Recommendations please.

Grouse

Walter Bell is an author in constant demand (Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter, Karamojo Safari etc). A few others that come to mind would be John Burger, John "Pondoro" Taylor, Robert Foran, Robert Ruark, J.A. Hunter, Denis Lyell and probably many others that I'll remember tomorrow.

As per Luke's offering "Hunter" by J.A. Hunter is a good read and one of my favourites although nothing beats Jim Corbett. Not quite colonial but I also enjoy the books on bow-hunting by Howard Hill who was a contemporary of Errol Flynn and also in more recent times the writings of Keith Sverinsen on hunting in New Zealand and other parts of the World are very good reading.

I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I've started to hunt down (!) some of them.

I didn't know we had so many archery hunting fans here. I'd love to do it, but talk about a year-round endevor. Must credit the archers, very few hunters practice anywhere near as much as the archery crowd over here.

Any others I should be looking for?
