Default Trout Bum

Spent a very pleasant afternoon in front of a blazing log fire , munching mince pies with brandy butter , glugging port , and reading Trout Bum by John Gierach.

Any man who can come up with the line " Jacket blurb by Eric Clapton : a well known fly fisherman who also plays guitar " is ok by me.

Thoroughly enjoyable read / afternoon.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp!!

The essays in Trout Bum are reflective, bitingly humorous, and enormously wise in the ways of fishing and men. A cracking book.

All Gierach's books are a terrific read but "trout bum" comes out on top

If anyone wants a nice clean paperback copy of JG's Death Taxes and Leaky Waders, let me know, it is a collection of a few of his books including Trout Bum and a few others.
SOLD.

Brian, one should never glug port, else you'll get reported to the Bishop of Norwich old chap.

Steven, I'd swap you a '95 hardback edition of Vincent Marinaro 'In the ring of the rise', but I expect you have it already.

I'm slowly making my way through Gierach's books. Having read the 1st two, I must say that I preferred "The View from Rat Lake" to "Trout Bum" but both are excellent.

Trout Bum is the best book on trout fishing written in the 20th Century; Giearch makes most other writers on the subject look like amateurs.

Initially I liked him very much but something doesn't quite ring true for me. Too much bum/cool dude and not enough trout.
Still, enjoyable and very well written.
