Default Divers Ways to Tackle Trout

From Coch Y Bondhu...........

Author: Taverner (Eric).

1925 1st edition. Chatto & Windus. London.

Ppxii,228. B/w photographs & illustrations, original blue cloth. Cloth soiled, some page-edge spotting. Good only.

Includes chapters on the trout itself, fishing tackle, trout flies, entomolgy and casting a fly. Also night-, lake- and shade-fishing.

My Question is, and I am unfamiliar with the book, why is it priced at £6.00? Can anyone enlighten me?

Cheers in advance

Any reason why it shouldn't be?

If you have any specific questions about the condition or content of the book then let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. I work at Coch Y Bonddu and if I get a moment tomorrow I'll see if I can lay my hands on the book and have a quick look over it.

Like I say, any questions about this or any of our other books are very welcome.

Well the puzzling thing for me is that in fourteen years time the book officially becomes an antique. So it is the age of the book against the price which is puzzling for me.

Is it just cr*p or did it have an over production run or is the book just plain unfashionable?

It just seems odd that a book first published in 1925 has a perceived or otherwise value of £6.00.

To be honest, it's not a book I'm familiar with so I don't really have an answer for that. I'm sure Paul could tell you if you emailed the shop directly or there's a good chance there's someone on the forum who might know.

Having had a look around it seems that copies in better condition are available for between £20 and £40. This particular copy has a few brown marks to the front board, a very faint cup ring and some foxing to the page edges. Internally it seems clean and tight so if you just wanted to read it then it would be absolutely fine. The condition though would probably put off collectors so that is perhaps why it is priced so low.

Eric Taverner wrote quite a few books and none command particularly high prices, except perhaps his Salmon Fishing book. They do go out the door fairly steadily though so there's obviously a demand for his writing.

Thanks for taking time out to come back. Interesting about the condition. As an aside I maybe going to a book auction shortly where I believe there is a copy of this book being offered in the sale. So I thank you again for your words which maybe of use. Just to let you know that I do buy books on a fairly regular basis from your company as well.
