Default Plu stiniog

: TROUT FLIES FOR NORTH WALES

by Emrys Evans, who was a well-known North Wales fisherman and a keen historian of Welsh angling and is the author.

There is a leather bound numbered jobbie on offer as well.

But have just ordered the plain hardback book blindly and out of curiosity.

Has anyone yet had a chance to take a look?

Casgliad unigryw y diweddar Emrys Evans o blu pysgota ardal Stiniog. Cyfrol sy'n cynnwys 133 o luniau lliwgar ynghyd a manylion patrymau traddodiadol pysgotwyr y cylch. Yn ogystal, ceir cyflwyniad difyr gan yr awdur ei hun.

Thumbs up

Yes, George Barron put me onto it at the flyfair and he was tying a few variations.
Fascinating to read and see the flies tied they without vices with any material they could get their hands on for fishing welsh lakes.

'r llyfr ydy da darllen.
Hwyl, Neil.

A great book. My grandad lived and fished over the hills from Ffestiniog. I could only find a couple of flies from his old flybox that veered towards those patterns. It left me wanting to find out more about the history of the Ffestiniog men, their methods and the lakes in question.

Nice to see a suitably lengthy feature on Plu Stiniog and Emrys Evans in January's FF&FT magazine.

Book arrived today and although I have only had a flick through I just know I am going to enjoy it.

OK some of the patterns have been tied with exotics - nightjar (never seen one) for example but all the flies come with alternative suggestions it seems for the protected stuff. All the flies come with a recipe and a pic.

There is no index which is a shame but the flies are well photographed and the history for each one is fascinating.

Loved the Roger Woolley Fly and the story behind it as an example and if you are a fly nut like me it is worth purchasing.

Don't know about the Welsh edition though cause can't speak the lingo!
