As the winter months are now here i wanted to start collecting a few books for the tying room.
I had a good look at both the Bffi and at Galway on Coch-y-Bonddu's stand and picked out the following 3 books that i am recommending now.

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying HENDS
A great book if you like your European style of flies and fishing.
A DVD is included as well.
I know Phil at FTB stocks them as well.

Secret Flies of the Czech and Slovak Fly Tiers
Again a great book if your in to your river nymphs

Trout Flies For Rivers Patterns from the west that work everywhere
By Carol ann Morris and Skip Morris
This is a superb book and comes with the highest recommendation
It has a great 2 hour long DVD and is very well photographed.
It has a superb Materials section and splits the tyings in to fly types.
Plenty of SBS and a comprehensive guide to tying the flies.

All three are highly recommended.

Good shout Toby, i have the first two and they provide lots of ideas, nothing ground breaking but small twists that can make all the difference. Also if you are a hook anorak they use some uncommon hooks again which only adds to your armoury. A bit off tangent but what i found interesting about both books is how they recommend small nymphs for grayling and larger for trout, something i have found very true when targeting better grayling. Having said that as an experemnet i caught a Grayling last week on a size 4 Pink Charm

The third book listed is now on my Xmas list.

Just had a look on Amazon and it's in stock with some used copies as well.
Is it from this side of the 'pond'? Have had a look at a couple of books from t'other side and wasn't sure how appropriate the paterns would be over here.....

No i think its from the USA

But trust me most of the flies are great for here.

BTW its cheaper from here and by ordering you are supporting a smaller company then Amazon which imho being a small guy myself is important.

Secret flies of the Czech and Slovak tyers sounds really interesting.

I take it they are not a secret any more now though? I suppose the updated second edition will be the 'The reasonably unknown flies of the Czech and Slovak tyers as seen the world over'
