Default The Book of the Hackle

by Frank Elder (1979)

I was unsure where to place this request as I reckon that more tyers as opposed to anglers may be interested and have knowledge of this book.

Basically it gets good reviews from the tyers and is priced at around £25.00 or millioms of pounds for the leather bound jobbie.

Is it worth reading is basically what I am asking the foum?

Looking forward to any replies.

Yes, it is worth a read.It is mostly about breeding for hackle colour, shape and quality. The Frank Elder strain are still running about, though somewhat mixed by now.

Some 20 years ago I knew a guy who was trying to breed from Elder's old flock. He ran a company called Scott Capes based in Carluke.
Nothing at all came of it.
Chancer is the word that comes to mind.

The answer is yes its a very good book.
But look on ebay as a few turn up for about £10 from time to time.
