Steve, use tying silk, just cut 4 strands and twist together (4ply) More strands the thicker the effect etc. Raid Mrs N's sowing box.

Ged just had a look at your leatherjackets, the mayfly one looks the nearest for me. All the rest look good. I've used pipe thread tape.

Iced up where I am. North of Blackburn seams clear. Was out yesterday fishing and the entire rod kept icing up. The weather was dry but cloudy, cold wind blowing. Today has been calmer but still cloudy and the ice has no sign of melting.
