Default Affordable Fly Casting Course For Beginners

On Saturday 21 May Bob and Vera Carlson who are both qualified game angling instructors (GAIC single handed) are running a 3 hour casting course for a maximum of 6 anglers aimed at absolute beginners or anglers with limited casting experience. The aim is to make participants proficient at overhead and roll casts so they can present their flies properly at reasonable distances.

It will be held at Farleton View Fishery in South Cumbria and the venue is 2 minutes from junction 36 of the M6 motorway. The fee is only £20 and includes the permit and you would just need the Environment Agency rod licence.

If you are interested then please either e mail us at bobcarlson@kencomp.net or phone us on 07886 817770.

Tight lines

thats great bob1 i hope many go to get some tuition and enjoy a fish, maybe some could do same at farmoor, or such like in the oxford area. i know FFF club did one on there still water, or even the Duke of Blenheim fishery could do, say with a 4 fish ticket 30 minuites with a qualified instructor, (they pay instructor) to encourage more into our fine sport.

Hi

Thanks for the response. The idea is to try and help new fly fishers or those wanting to give it a try. A good foundation in casting will hopefully encourage the anglers to enjoy our wonderful sport and save hours of frustration. If its sucessful we will run some others in the year and in these times when many people have to be careful with their spending we have priced the course at a very keen price.

We are sure other qualified instructors will be running similar events in their areas to help newcomers get the most from their sport.

Hi Bob, sounds good, no doubt a few will take up your offer.
Is this in conjunction with the fishing in Cumbria event, or a totally seperate thing?
Good luck with it.
Steven.

Hi Steven

Thanks for the encouragement.

The casting for beginners is separate from the Cumbria Fishing Festival. If the 3 hours can get beginners or anglers with very poor casting abilities casting ok then they are far more likely to keep on fly fishing and enjoy it better if they are getting the flies on the water instead of the bushes behind etc. Mind you I sometimes manage high in a tree when I have forgotten its there

We are doing a session on casting for the Cumbria Festival and thats at High Newton Reservoir on Friday 20 May in the evening. That 3 hour session is aimed at fly anglers who have the basics of casting and is an evening dedicated to helping anglers improve their casting by introducing shooting line, hauls single or double, coping with awkward winds (should have done it this last couple of days ), improving roll casts, presentation etc. We ran it the last two years in the Fishing Festival and the sessions werr very popular and enjoyable. very much hands on and good fun.

Just a quick reminder that if anyone in the North West wants brushing up on their fly casting skills (beginners) at our event at Farleton View Fishery on Saturday 21 May they need to let us know no later than 18 May.
