However, it was at the age of 14 that he took an interest in match fishing and since then has never looked back. Cathal has enjoyed a lot of success on the Irish match circuit having won the Belturbet, Ballinasloe, Gowna and Stena festivals.

Hello Grace and thank you for your mail,as you know we attend a lot of Angling shows throughout Europe and had probably neglected our domestic market, myself and my wife had a stand in Swords,at the Ireland Angling Show this year 2010 to Promote our unique product,Bellavista Hotel Self Drive Angling Holidays. We were firstly very impressed by the overall professionalism of the Show organizers, you did what it said on the tin so to speak. We have taken a number of new bookings and have had numerous requests for further information.Anyone who stopped at our stand were genuine anglers. We will be returning in 2011 to meet our customers and give other anglers the opportunity to avail of a quality angling experience. Anyone who is in to angling or has an Angling product must attend this show. Kevin @Cairy Murphy Bellavista Angling Services Cobh,Co Cork - Bellavista Hotel & Self Catering Suites

Irish sports and life Magazine Irene Titterington
Hugh Just a short one to say thanks again for inviting us to the show and for looking after us so well. Pass on our thanks to all the team concerned. It was a great success for all of us to have been involved in. We had a lot of interest shown over the week end and hopefully the nationwide programme will reflect that. Everyone profits from a successful event, even the Dentist in Omagh has got a turn out of it to the tune of £1,000. I will be speaking to some trade stands over the next month or 2 as part of co-ordinating the Loughs Agency Fair in April. I am fairly confident that I can send some trade stands your way for next year's show. With the disappointment of the Belfast show this year again there is no reason why Swords can't be the premier event in the Angling calender in Ireland.

Regards Pete Peter Kealey Champion Fly Tyer

Peter Dunne- From Durrow, County Laois is a 7 times World Champion fly dresser, he has made the easy peasy Klinkhammer his forte. He has written extensively for both Trout and Salmon and Fly-fishing and Fly-Tying magazines and is the resident expert for Irish Angler Magazine. Peter is also promoting the Irish Open in conjunction with Irish Angler Magazine. Peter will be tying mostly river patterns for 2 days.

Declan Tuffy- From Athenry, County Galway has been tying flies for the past 19 years or so. He was fortunate to have grown up beside a salmon river (the Moy in Ballina) and live near another, the Corrib River in Galway. Unlike most tiers, his first efforts were salmon flies. They still remain his passion to this day. He particularly likes dressing old classic salmon flies. He is a previous winner of The Irish Championship

Ryan Houston- Now resident in Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh, Ryan is the typical country vet and every animal he encounters is viewed with fly-tying potential. Ryan has successfully participated in most of the major fly tying competitions and is the current Fly-fishing and Fly-tying masters’ winner. A Mustad Gold medalist 2009. Ryan will be putting lots of materials on big hooks that he also makes.

Joe McDonald- From Omagh, County Tyrone has been tying flies commercially now for well over 55 of his 70 plus years. He is highly regarded in Ireland and was one of the contributors to the highly successful book by Robert Gillespie and Chris Mann "Shrimp and Spey Flies for Salmon". Joe has also demonstrated at the past 2 British Fly Fairs and will be attending the Dutch Fly Fair in May. Joe has also written articles for Fly-fishing and Fly-Tying Magazine . Joe will be promoting his latest patterns including the highly successful “Grilse Fly”.

Peter Kealey- Has been tying flies for at least 20 years or so. A previous winner of the Irish Open and Mustad Gold medalist 2009. Peter has contributed to Flydresser Magazine and also advises on fly tying subjects on Salmon Fishing Forum. Peter will be tying some Templedog style tube flies and Pot Belly Pigs with an Irish twist among other things. He will also have some supplies of fly-tying wax with him as well.

Stevie Munn - Is a qualified Hardy Greys Academy and APGAI fly casting instructor and qualified an Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor in Fly Tying with APGAI-Ireland, with over 30 years of angling and fly tying experience. He has fished many venues throughout the world but is most at home fishing on one of the large Irish loughs or rivers, for wild Trout, Dollaghan or Salmon.
Stevie has a true love for his sport. He has given fly tying demos at many game fairs over the years throughout the UK and Ireland and he teaches fly tying at his local Belfast college.

David Wolsoncroft- Dodds - has specialised in fly-fishing for pike. He has developed techniques which allow him to catch pike from many types of water throughout the year.
David’s pike-flies are practical and effective. They are solutions to fish-catching problems rather than an end in themselves. They are well constructed and durable – most important when you look at a pike’s impressive set of teeth!
David has caught pike (up to 32lb 4oz) with these flies from England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Holland and the Swedish Baltic. He’ll be happy to offer any help you need to catch pike yourself.

:: Matt Hayes Biography

I was 28 and Sales & Marketing Director for Pirelli Tyres. One day I just walked into the office and decided that I’d had enough. Shimano had offered me a consultancy contract and this, coupled with some video work and marketing work for companies in the industry enabled me to launch my career in fishing I’ve never looked back.
I won specimen fishing's top prize, the Drennan Cup in ‘98 and then dropped out of serious big fish angling to rediscover pleasure fishing. I still like to catch big fish but for me, what really counts is experiencing fishing in all of its forms. I came to realize that measuring success in pounds and ounces is a road to nowhere and these days I seek out fishing adventures wherever I can find them.

The places I fish, the people I fish with and the mastery of so many different styles of fishing are my driving forces. I just love the big, wild places and the wild, uncaught fish. To me, the magic of fishing is mystery and uncertainty. I’ve been so lucky to fish in some of the greatest places in the world and the best part is that there are so many more blank pages in the fishing diary to fill? I have written a column in Angling Times for almost ten years and starred in every issue of Improve Your Coarse Fishing since issue 3.

Other magazines I have contributed to include:
Trout Fisherman
Trout and Salmon
Blinker (Germany)
Beet (Holland)
Fiske for Alle (Sweden)
Alt omFIske (Norway)
T.V work:
Fish Tales (Sky Sports), Total Fishing (Discovery), Mainstream (Discovery), Wet Nets (Discovery), Buena Vista Fishing Club (Discovery), Great Rod Race (Discovery), Greater Rod Race (Discovery), Lake Escapes (Discovery), Record breaking Fish (Discovery), Total Fishing 2000 (Discovery), Matt Hayes’ Greatest Catches, Wild Fisherman (Yet to be released)

He then turned to the British Casting Association and started to compete at British, European and World casting championships. During this time he amassed the following titles:

¥ World Games Accuracy Casting Champion
¥ European Distance Casting Champion
¥ European Silver Medallist (Accuracy)
¥ 14 British casting records
¥ 6 times All Round British Champion
¥ Over 100 British Individual titles
¥ World Record holder for multiple casting (66 rods cast simultaneously)

Charles Jardine is one of the most well known faces in the fly's Campaign for Angling.

Charles is another demonstrator who comes from a fishing family but also inherited his father's passion for art, and is a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists.

Charles is an accomplished fly tier and is also a renowned television and radio broadcaster. Charles views angling as an essential way of bringing communities together and he places an active role in a whole host of events to introduce angling to new audiences. His display at the Galway Irish Fly Fair will show why he has enjoyed a lifetime in fly-fishing and what he believes it can offer the next generation as well.

The popular Dinghy Angler articles are a collection of stories, advice and comment on small boat angling in Ireland. From wreck fishing thirty miles offshore for big cod and coalfish to stalking bass in a couple of feet of water; it's all covered. While I am happy chasing any species there is something magical about catching a specimen fish. Over thirty years of angling has seen Jim catch lots of quality fish. Our sport is changing all the time. It is my aim to keep up with the changes and bring the best of what is new to Irish anglers from an Irish perspective. Jim spoke at last year's Angling show and proved a hit with all anglers, whatever their discipline!

Press Re

Angling show goes from strength to strength

The Ireland Angling Show was held last Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th February , at the National Show Centre in Swords Dublin .

Angling is the fastest growing sport in the World and Ireland is legendary for its waterways and fishing grounds and attracts tourists from all over the World including some very famous celebrities and sportstars.

Angling is also one of the easiest and most cost efficient hobbies to get involved in, especially in these recession hit times.
It is also has huge benefits on your health, in particular your mental health.

The Ireland Angling 2011 show didn’t disappoint the thousands of attendees who turned out on Saturday and Sunday.
They were treated to an exciting, action-packed couple of days; they heard from the pros as they illustrate their fishing techniques with demonstrations to suit expert and novice anglers alike. They got advice on how to select the right rods, reels, hooks and lures to suit their particular fishing.

The show also included lots of exciting new features, such as the, Central Casting Pool & Outdoor Casting with prizes sponcered by Hardy & Greys , Theatre, Fly-tying Gallery, Fishing Simulators, Lure Pool, Workshops and the huge crowd puller Family Zone. run by Des Chew of the Dublin Angling Initiative. Des and his team takes thousands of young people from schools, summer projects and youth services throughout Dublin City Centre and its suburbs on sea, coarse and game angling courses throughout the year. He was supported and helped by the top names in irish Angling, who kindly gave their free time to help out.

And if meeting the pros and visiting the exhibitor’s stands wasn’t enough there was a purpose built platform for attendees to view how to tie and present their flies like a pro by World Champion Fly Tyers such as Peter Kealey, Peter Dunne, Ryan Houston and Declan Tuffy and oversea visitors such as Riny Sluiter Netherlands, Stack Scoville USA,Mikko Stenberg FINLAND and many more.

Over the weekend, Angling experts joined the team, such as Hardy & Greys Stevie Munn ,Cathal Hughes Tom Sullivan and , Hywel Morgan, Brian Cooke and many more gave an array of lively presentations and the popular casting pool gave spectators a perfect vantage point to see how Glenda Powell, Charles Jardine, Paddy Mc Donnell and APGAI- IRE demonstrated their skills as well as offering tuition and instructions to the audience.

From ‘The Chef Centre of Ireland’ Chris Sandford demonstrated how to make Sushi from Salmon and sent samples out into the audience to taste.

Organizer Grace McDermott, Mara Media, said: “The show has been a huge success. We held our numbers at 9,000 visitors and added new attractions and celebrities from all disciplines within angling to make it a real day our for the family with bargains galore.
McDermott added: “The exhibitors were thrilled with the attendance and pleasantly surprised by the spending power, which bucked the economic times, probably a reflection of the popularity of angling as the world''s number one pastime. Exhibitors are already booking their stands for 2012, with many looking for more space.
