In 2010 I decided to move away from being yet another rod builder simply building on generic blanks to produce a rod no different to many others apart from the logo and the components. I wanted to offer customers a British made product as good as anything in the world and totally exclusive to AtomSix. After many months of testing on my part and decades of experience of my production facilities, the first blanks are now in production and I'm extremely happy with them.

Features:

Blended using ultra high modulus and ultra high strength carbon

Circumferential cross wrap inter-ply to increase hoop strength. Incorporated to resist ovaling (folding) under strain and increase recovery rates. The result is effortless power.

Advanced resin reinforcement system to give improved robustness.

Cured using Autoclave Technology. The use of an autoclave (pressurised curing oven) produces a carbon matrix structure far superior at the molecular level to traditional heat shrink tape methods. Many blanks go soft over time due to micro voids in the carbon matrix. Use of an autoclave eliminates these voids almost entirely. Aviation, motor sport and military application carbon components are produced in autoclaves.

No other trout rod in the world currently uses all these technologies. What they produce is one of the most advanced blanks available. Their performance is stunning! Generating higher line speeds with less effort and the feedback I'm getting from amateur and professional fishermen about these blanks is making all the hard work worthwhile.

However, don't take my word for it....give one a try.

Yesterday I visited Steve to discuss the new 10' 3" rods that he is developing for me and my style of NCF fishing.
When I arrived he suggested that I try is dynamic 9' super fast 5wt. We hopped into the filed next door (being harassed by Toby the calf who wanted to get into the action) and had quite a few short and long casts.
This rod is truly a performance tuned rod and anyone who likes this type of action should get one.
After discussing rod design and having Steve demonstrate his high standard of rod finishing he insisted that we try and have a go with another 9' 5wt that he was currently building.
We taped on runners, covered up the grip with cling wrap and set off back to the field.
I am a fisherman foremost and admit that there are many who are better and prettier casters than me. But I have fished for nearly 40 years and at international level and with 20 years on and off guiding pretty much cast all types of rods. Much of that time I used a 9 ' 5wt rod. It was my 'go to' standard.
So I was very interested why Steve was getting me to try yet another 5wt.
Walking across to the field I was struck by the action of the rod without any line through it. It felt soft yet had a hidden stiffness. Not what I expected after casting its big brother 2 hours earlier.
We ran a line through it and I cast a short line. Wow, the cast was almost effortless yet 30' of line plus a leader shout out straight as an arrow. I cast again and the same thing happened. This rod felt like a fishing rod. I cast under trees, targeted got pads and even Toby's nose. All casts were easy flowing and the rod felt that as though there was a V8 sitting in it somewhere just waiting to explode and show off.
So stripping of some line I loaded the rod up and with a single false cast another 30' of line shot out straight as an arrow. I was astounded at how well this rod cast.
Right I said, let's really load it up and go for it. A couple of false casts and the whole line shot out. A rarity for me with my style.
I fell in love with this rod and was reluctant to let Steve have a cast.
While he was testing the rod I noticed a subtle difference with this action that any other rod I have owned or cast. The tip action. There was simply no wobble causing slight tremors down the first part of the line as it was cast forward.
Steve explained to me that the way in which he has designed the rod together with his new materials the rod performed demonstrably better that anything else.
It doesn't melt under casting pressure and I got the feeling that it would take a really exceptional caster to better it.
God I am disappointed that I am a 3/4 wt fishermen. I just wanted to get that rod.
Still, I can't wait until my 10' 3 wts arrive. If they are as good as that rod my misses won;t be seeing me too much.
Thanks Steve, a great day.

Hi Phil

I'm glad you enjoyed the day and had fun with the 5wt Singularity rod.

*** RANGE UPDATE ***

Since the end of last season We've been working on a few extra models in my range based on the AtomSix blanks and are now in stock. These are;

9' #5 Singularity (as described by Phil above).
Mid actioned with the ability for very delicate presentation but still plenty of response should you require 20+ yards. For those that like the deflection numbers, the AA is about 60 degrees.

10' #5 Neutrino
Mid to tip flexing rod. Great Czech nymphing rod.

10' #8 Neutrino
Mid/Tip actioned with plenty of power.

10'6" #8 Neutrino Switch Rod
As above but with the addition of a removable 6" switch handle and an extended main handle. Can be used as a single hander with the smaller butt or a switch rod with the extension.

Also in the final stages of development are;

6'6" #3. Will be a 3 piece with a gentle action.

10' #3 Spider rod

9' #8/9 Something for swff, sea trout or even piking.

As soon as these three are ready for people to demo I'll post on here.

Cheers

Steve

I'll guarantee you one thing Phil, Once you get one of these in your hands, you'll change your poorly marked rating.

I don't use anything else. The blanks are mean't to be drab as in non flash. The only shiny parts are where the logo and inscriptions are plus the tyings.

Send Steve a deposit and get one in your hands. That's the only way you'll see for yourself. Super cosmetics and superb build quality.

Check out his website on "try before you buy". You won't regret it.

Best Regards

Stuart

I cannot find fault with Steve's rods.
He has made a bold moving developing his own blanks and i am glad to say he has nailed it.
Steve has been kind enough to send a few rods to me for testing over the last couple of years which is a great trusting service.
The 6wt rod stands out for me for the type of fishing i do most of the time.
Great build quality and brilliant service.

Keep up the good work

Amazing that someone can pass comment on a rod they have never cast or even seen in the flesh.

I have a 4# that Steve built for me and it is just fantastic everyoen that I know who has used it, and this includes a lot of my clients last year, though it was one of the best rods they have cast.

As for them being a bit bland and need sparkling up the idea is that the finish is matt to reduce the rod flash, like stealth technology for fishing rods.
