I've recently taken delivery of a hand-built 6' cane rod. This was built for me by John Adin. John used to build rods for Fosters of Ashbourne, then set up on his own in the centre of Ashbourne. He also made guns and gun cases.

It's built using a lovely pale Tonkin cane and has John's special spear gizmo in the butt, as well as being immaculately finished in every other area.

A pure delight to fish with.

John has now closed down his workshop in the centre of Ashbourne and moved some of the machinery to his garage at home.

He will still make the occasional cane rod to order and has a couple in stock (7' 6" and 8' 6").

He will never have a website nor advertise, but it you are in the market for a superbly built traditional cane rod, made by one of the regrettably few old-style traditional English craftsmen then drop me a PM and I will send you John's contact details.

It's worth a visit just to hear some of his yarns of fishing in Derbyshire in the past...
