Default WANTED: Split cane
I'm looking for a split cane fly rod, around 8'0 that will be happy with a #5 line.

I don't need anything flash, I don't want something to hang on the wall. It doesn't even need to have a name of any kind. I just fancy a cane rod that I can fish once in a while for fun - nothing like switching between a split cane and a #4 Marksman for confusing your arm!

Oh, and it wants to be cheap

I have a good friend who manufacturers split cane rods in darlington, North Yorkshire, he doesnt normally advertise as he depends on word of mouth. Give him a shout he may just be able to help you out. His website is:

What some beautiful rods there. I'm not looking to pay anything like that at the moment, but I've bookmarked the site in case I change my mind...Oh dear, if only I could 'unsee' those!

For a knockabout cane rod, a chinese Zhu on ebay for about $150 will probably satisfy your needs if you're not looking for an heirloom.
Other than that some classic auctions are coming up (Angling Auctions, Mullocks) and some may be had *cheaply*. Check the past catalogues and the prices reached documents to accompany them. Don't forget to add VAT & 20% commission!

Some fantastic rods there, not all that expensive considering the work that must go in to build, works of art.
