Default Rod and reels clearout - cheap as chips!

Well folks, its finally time for a long overdue clearout of old gear now surplus to requirements. All perfectly useable and will make ideal starter or back-up kit, or even main kit for those looking for decent cheap gear. Prices include postage by standard parcel apart from the Shimano rod which would need a courier due to length. Please note posting will probably have to be at a weekend due to work commitments in week but will post in week if possible. Paypal preferred please.

Rods:
Airflo M-Tec (original model) 10’ #7, 3 piece, in velour sock and tube. Nice easy casting rod, light for a 10’ rod. My main floating line stillwater rod in its day but also throws a sinking line well. £30 posted.Sold

Daiwa Whisker Fly WF98 9’6” H, #6-8, 2 piece, in sock (top rod in photo below). Note, this the H version with the lined guides throughout. Small chunk of cork missing near reel seat as per photo, but this is purely cosmetic. Classic rod of its day, was my main rod for sunk line work but throws a floating line nicely too. £25 posted (nb this assumes it just squeaks into the 1.5m length for standard parcel, which it should do)Sold

Shimano Perfection 10’ #8-9, 2 piece, in sock (bottom rod in photo). Unfortunately due to its length this would require a courier so £27 posted.Sold

Own branded Edinburgh tackle shop rod, 9’6” #6, 4 piece, in sock and tube. Nice looking, easy casting rod, little used as I didn’t have much call for a #6 rod. £25 posted.Sold

Reels:
Pair of Ron Thompson Dynadisc composite reels with spare spools, #7/8 size (but also big enough to take a #9). Lightly used, £25 the pair posted.
Click the image to open in full size.Sold

Pair of Leeda Rimfly Concept cassette reels, 375 size (ie mid size, for #6-8 lines), click check model, each with spare cassette spool. One has an old #WF8 floating line on, the other an old #WF7 floater. Some usual cosmetic scuff marks around the rims but in fine working order. Can only find one of the original boxes though. £25 the pair posted.

As new in box BFR Dragonfly Concept 355 size reel (ie small size for #3-5 lines), disc drag, with 2 spare cassette spools. Includes new Pitsford Pirate DT4 floating line in “camohogany” brown. Bought as a back up set but never been used. £20 posted.Sold

Hi Jeff,

Will get this out of the way. Been "looking" at the website for a couple of weeks, newby. Son (11) DESPERATE to fly fish (and so am I to be honest). Would the Daiwa and both the reels set's work as a starter set? (have been given a Flextec 9ft #8)

I am in the process of booking a four hour Father and Son starter/casting lesson with Robert Globe who will provise all the kit required for that. I realise I should probaly wait untill after the lesson to purchase some kit of our own but as I say, son desperate just to have a rod and reel in his bedroom so that he can look at it!

If it doesn't work for us, not wasted too much money buying the above! (least it appease him for a while)

Many thanks.

SJ.

Hi SJ and welcome - short answer is "yes" - its what I started on (albeit a bit older than 11...ahem). As you say, also means you're not forkng out loads, its good enough to use as additional rod anyway (once you get started there's no stopping and you will want more than one rod for sure....) and you can always sell on again anyway if it doesn't work out. I'll drop you a pm this evening when back home.....
