Default A wee beastie

Was fishing Dunalastair Loch a couple of weeks back and while taking a tea break I noticed this little fella slithering past me.

It's a slow worm. Not seen one before and have to say it was absolutely beautiful and almost iridescent.

Would not want to be a frog with that around!!!!
These are the moments we remember forever when we are on this angling adventure. Held in the memory longer that most of the fish we hook.

Rare species and protected. It is a slow worm as Allan says,Unusual to see especially north.
Used to see alot in my garden in devon, mostly in bits due to the hover mower.
Totally harmless to humans as far as Im aware.
Nice pics

Hi Texxa, That is a brilliant photo. I haven't seen a Slow Worm since I was around 12. A long time ago. Thanks for that, really nice to see.

Best Regards

Stuart

Thanks guys

It was a charming little critter and didn't seem to show any fear. It was quite happy to let me handle it...It felt a lot firmer than a snake and was incredibly smooth.

Great experience

Great pictures Texxa! I'm not a snake person but for some reason I've always found Slow Worms to be beautiful creatures. My cat brought one back a couple of summers ago and to my surprise it was unharmed so into a shoe box it went and back to the forest it was returned. Suppose to be very sensitive to pollution and pesticides which is why they're so rare.

Take care

Terry

Nice one , great pic

They do not always like to be handled , take care if you do pick one up as there is a chance it could shed it's tail if stressed or miss handled . It is infact a lizard without legs .................

I helped to relocate some of these many years ago and as far as I know they are still doing very well in their new home
