Hi Guys
Im keen to add more waters to my "tubed list" last year i had been meaning to tube Loch Lubnaig as id only ever bait fished this deep Loch. However expecting failure i always cried off and ended up on the Tay or Earn

there escapee rainbows the incentive, however over the last year ive tied of rainbows and wild brown trout have become my chosen quarry.
Yesterday i finally got round to tube the Loch 10am-about 4pm, 14 oC-16 oC, very strong winds however not a huge wave that i love

The wind was very erratic one second from the south, then north, then east this was repeated all day, which was pretty enjoying.
A moody looking sky over Loch Lubnaig.
I used a three fly team of wets on a floating line with a 11' leader on my 9' 3# Vision Cult. I entered the water at the first car park and headed out across the the far side and a weedy looking bay had "fish" written all over it ! be i trout or perch i didnt care. Sadly not a nibble ...............
At no point during the day did i see a fish jump, rise, roll or any sign what so ever of fish ! Even in slack water close to the shore under trees were you normally see wee browns sipping terrestrial's......nothing !
Pulled a shore on the far side for lunch (see above photo) after lunch i worked my way further up the far bank past the forest lodges its alot shallower here than on the road side which drops off steepy to very deep water !
Finally as i past the lodges heading back toward the river Leny whilst fished a black hopper (wet), wingless wickhams, and Hot tail Kate top dropper with a slow fig 8 retrieve allowing the hopper to fish deep ........a "savage take"

as soon as i lifted the rod a very fit 13" brownie lunched its self skyward !! And then took off putting a lovely deep bend in my Cult and putting up a great scrap till he came to my net

mission accomplished

i hadnt blanked but i had to work hard to get my prize. The fish had taken my black hopper and must have really wanted it because it was well down.
No other fish or tugs after that and still no sign of fish moving. However i achieved my goal i.e tubed the Lubnaig and caught which i really hadnt expected i had the feeling it was going to be hard going and i was right. Possible with sinking lines etc it may prove more productive ?
When ever ive bait fished it with friends in the past a feeder or ledger right on the bottom always produced trout, Perch and Char so there certainly plenty on the bottom.
Not sure i will tube it again any time soon but an enjoyable day and another Loch ticked off my list
