Default 16 Year Old with another Agivey Specimen

Here's a picture of a specimen wild brown caught on the River Agivey about 2 weeks ago. The 16 year old lad caught this trout on a black flying 'C'. The fish weighed about 7¼lb and that was after a night in the freezer! This is also the reason why it looks a little dried up

Only a few ounces of the current record which was 7lb 10oz and it was caught on the dry by the late Joe Bonnar.

So fair play to the young man for catching such a brute...and whats really surprising (or disappointing!) is that it was caught no further than 400m from my house!

The guys fishing the Agivey at next years international would hardly be wanting to hook something this big on 6X tippet in the last 10mins of a session!! Can you fish a black fly 'C' below a size 16 klink

AP

PS Lads face not shown in case I get in trouble from parents

WELL THE GUYS FISHING THERE NEXT TIME WONT BE CATCHING THAT TROUT AND THATS FOR SURE

FAIR PLAY TO THE YOUNG GUY, HOPEFULLY HE WILL SEE THAT A TROUT LOOKS MORE BEAUTIFUL SWIMMING AWAY THAN LYING CREASED AND DRIED UP IN A FREEZER

Good on the kid for catching a fine fish but its a big shame seeing a big brown in that state. Pity

I'm with hobble.

Default agivey specimen

c`mon you lot, give the lad a break , it`s probably the fish of a lifetime. he puts it back and thats it, at least he`s got the photies to show any other fishermen, and he will remember that session for ages.

yeah it probably is the fish of a lifetime, but that doesnt stop him from taking a photo then putting it back to show other fishermen or to be caught again once he gains a few pounds, but like i said fair play to him on catching it, i take the odd trout for the pan to but aint been lucky enough to catch one this big on a river yet hopefully i do sometime

He should have put a fish that special back. Conservation should be encouraged from a young age. Many people kill their first salmon, just because it's their first. My first salmon was 14lbs and i was 10. I put it back. I was aware of how important fish like that were at 10 years old.
My biggest fish to date is a 26lb salmon, possibly the fish of a lifetime, and i caught that when i was 18. The thought of killing that fish never even crossed my mind. Now there's nothing wrong with killing the odd grilse, but the big fish are special.

Well done to him for catching it, but it shouldn't have been killed, that's all we're saying. Perhaps he didn't know about conservation, so let's hope he learns something.

THEIR IS NOTHING MORE SPECIAL THAN CATCHING A FISH OF A LIFE TIME AND NOTHING MORE GRACEFUL AS WATCHING SUCH A FINE CREATURE SWIMMING BACK TO ITS HUNTING GROUNDS,

PLEASE PRACTICE C P R,

CATCH
PHOTOGRAPH
RELEASE

PRACTICE C P R TO SAVE OUR FISH STOCKS

And what photies they are!

Seriously though, the catch and release zealots can harp on all they like. I've killed a grand total of two 12 oz trout in the last two years (badly hooked), but I reckon if I was a young lad with a nasty 7lb brownie in me net - and a river full of smaller candidates just waiting to jump onto his lie and grow as big, I'd have chapped him on the scone and taken him home to show Dad too.

As we grow older, we are better able to exercise restraint and gain more satisfaction from seeing such a fish swim back to the depths where he belongs.....and you could argue that the fading memory of the beast in all its glory would be better than a rubbish photo of a cacky freeze-dried fish with disabled access ramp in the background, but I don't think it's realistic to start adopting the moral high ground - and let's face it, the moral high ground is a very precarious viewpoint where catch and release is concerned - when we are talking about a very excited young lad with a fish of a lifetime.
