Hook: B400 10-14
Thread: Uni fire orange
Body: hare's mask blend
Rib: if you want it to look fancy and last 2 or 3 fish, use narrow mirage. If you want it to last a season use oval gold tinsel
Legs: 6 knotted CPT fibres
Hackles: red game and grizzle cock, wound together and clipped underneath

It's a staple of mine for stillwater dry fly fishing. Has been for more than 10 years.

Default Trout's Eye View Photography

Love the pics! I have been amazed at how much I have learned from putting bugs and artificals onto water.

1) Check out this Adams. It is a classic dry fly. As I was photograhing it it began taking on water and took on the appearance of an emerger.

2) You can watch the whole sequence of pictures in a slide show:
Photo Library (Trout's Eye View)

3) I also found that small stray feathers or other wisps of material wreak havoc on a fly's resting position on the water. For small delicate flys, a very small bit of CDC left untrimmed and extended easily puts the fly on its side, or at least causes severe listing to one side.

Keep up the great work!
Mike

Thumbs up Fantastic!

I, and I sure I'm not alone here, would love to see more of the 'before/after' photo's of the 'real bug' vs the fly. Gave your thread a '5 star rating.' I'll go for more if we get more photos.

Default More pics...

I intend to take more pictures very soon, and will be happy to post them! It's great knowing that there are others who are just as passionate about this great hobby.

Were you able to view the slideshow?

Enjoy the fishing!

Default Re: Trout's eye view of a fly... sort of

I lost track of this thread quite a while ago and just stumbled back on it tonight. I thought it was the first time I was seeing it, loving other people's underwater trout's eye view of flies and insects.

Anyway, you said that you wanted more, so here is what I have to offer:

Click the image to open in full size.

This is footage I shot last year showing scuds in the viewer, and compared to Al's Rat for contrast in size:
Scud Video - Trout's Eye View

Here is underwater trout video shot in the Lehigh Allentown Parkway:
Underwater Video - Trout's Eye View

There is a video loop of just the scuds in action. This was such a hoot, catching bugs in the stream, viewing them, and then using that info right away to catch trout when nothing was was working.
Fly Tying Mirror - Trout's Eye View

I added a photo to give you an idea, but it pales in comparison to seeing the video.

Take care,
Mike
