Great picture.

It brings back very vague memories of a weeks holiday I spent with my family some where nearby (Little France camp site??). I used to walk to the loch and seem to remember catching perch from a rocky prometory. All a bit vague, I was only about 12 at the time and, as now, had little idea of what I was doing, but I must have enjoyed it as I went every day

Not really, think it was around £45 to play a round when I was at Edinburgh Uni a few years ago.

Cheers - even as I was writing it, I thought, "I bet it turns out it's fairly reasonable..." Nevertheless, you can get anything from 2 to 9 days fishing for £45 (not including places where fishing is free!)

Sounds a bit like Dunsapie Loch, which is just further up the hill. It certainly used to have some cracking perch in it, and it has a rocky outcrop on one side.

I'm sure I heard that as well. A carp group has it under draconian control these days. If you so much as cast a glance towards the water, one of them will jump out the bushes and demand to know what you are up to!

I'd love a day there with a couple of dead baits out.

I fished Duddingston a fair bit when I was a lad. Loads of perch and your right Cumbrian all the kids fished from a big rocky outcrop. Never caught a carp but I saw them often enough, never caught or heard of anyone catching pike (Dunsapie was the place for them) but did catch the odd trout and am aware of at least one fish that was around 5lbs.

The Braid burn, where it runs through the golf course, is like a wee chalk stream, plenty of willing brownies in it, some of them surprisingly decent
