We generally go in before daybreak and setup our rods. Steelhead like the darkness before sunup and cloudy days. Makes them more secure and easier to get a hit from.

Default Nice fish.

Glad to see you fellows were using 2-hander rods invented here in the Pacific Northwest.

Fred

I hate to break the news to you that "Spey rods" as they are refered to in the PNW originated in Great Britain.

Fred are you now claiming that centre pin reels and rods also originated there?

2-handers came from the 'greater PNW,' but center pin fishing came directly out of British Columbia. Well, maybe an extra 1/4 credit .... you got the word 'British' right. (Don't ask about the pink plastic worms they run under their floats .... you don't want to go there.)

Wonderful photos, is it Lake Erie they run from?

In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

These fish are runs from Lake Erie t1978d. The runs start about mid September and lasts until April-May. The best fishing is in the fall and spring. The fish are hyper in the fall being fresh from the lake.
It seems you get the larger fish in the spring.
I believe these were caught in March last year.
