Default Perch How Big???

Click the image to open in full size.
I know strictly not fly fishing but this is a picture of a perch caught by my son Cameron this morning on a little s plug. We were out in the beutifull morning sunshine in the hope of picking up a pike or two but this is all we had to show for our efforts! I have tried to post this on classic coarse fishing but I cannot get it to work so it has ended up on here. The perch was much bigger than I have ever caught which measured 17 inches from nose to tail.
Question is how big?

I spotted a few in this stretch in the summer that seemed a decent size so will be experimenting with weighted nymphs next time.

Mark

you could also put it in fishing for other species ,classic coarse has been down for over a week now ..

You perch weight estimators may also be able to help me out. What's your best guess for the fish below? I caught loads of perch as a young lad, but never more than about 12oz, so this fish was something new to me......

Peepingcaddis,

Perch always weigh heavier than they look. If it was 17" long it would go 2lb+, possibly 2lb 4oz, but as it doesn't look to have much of a middle age spread I'll settle for 2lb.

Matt, that one is well over 3lb - possibly 3-8. I'd have weighed it. My best perch came from Chew on a white booby and weighed 3-14. I gave it a serious nudge on the last day of the coarse season this year, but lost the fish after it became entangled in some line trailing from a nearby bush. I had a good look at it just beyond landing net range, so I'm confident in my assessment. Nearly, but not quite. However, I know where he lives and i'm planning a return vist in the not too distant future.
