Default What type of trout?

I caught them on wee lochs on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, this summer. Is it a brook trout? The colours and markings are beautiful (even on a small fish like this one)!

It's definitively some type of char but I've never seen a brookie that was so dark. Could be due to dark waters in the loch though. Absolutely stunning colors!

'Brook trout' Salvelinus fontinalis without any doubt whatsoever.

P.S. I'm glad the Fogo trip went well 'flynewbie'; did you get to see any icebergs there?

It would be the blue rings and vermicualr markings on the back that would distinguish it from an arctic char,wouldn't it? The rest of the coloration is similar, stunning fish. Was it expensive to fish there?

And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Nice wee brookie then. A new one for me!

I enquired everywhere as for permits in the "ponds" and most people said it was free, the other said I could only do it during food fishery time which was the week I was there. I guess they went too bothered for small brook trouts when you can have nice salmon on the big rivers like the Gander just round the corner (a few hrs drive), where it's well regulated, but no idea of cost...

Ephemerella, no icebergs, apparently I was 1 week late for the last ones! I'll have to go back...
