Stunning and thanks for sharing.
What tactics do you use for sea run char?

All were on a gold head woolly ******, fairly chunky, (size 8 longshank) fished down and across. Pretty unsophisticated but when in Rome, as they say.....the fish were just pure muscle, the odd leap, but generally a very dogged and powerful fight. best about 5lbs.

I was expecting an ad with kerry Katona, seriously wonderful photos, especially the char. Was the fishing expensive there?

In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Thanks - Kerry Katona has now lost the contract with Iceland, so sadly couldn't feature her fish finger-filled face. I believe Kym Marsh is the new face of Iceland.

I would say the fishing I had was not expensive - I got a half day (16.00 - 22.00) on the Eyjafjardara pictured for 7000 IKR, which at the current (favourable) exchange rate is about £35. I'd call that good value but some others may disagree.

I also bought the Veidokortid (fishing card) which entitles you to fish 31 lakes spread around the island - these lakes contain brown trout, sea trout, sea char, char and salmon. Cost - £30. I really didn't make the most of this, however on my first lake I got around 10 fish, sea trout and browns to just over a pound. Fishing on lake Myvatn, in the north cost about £12, it holds a large stock of trout, I only scratched the surface but got a few browns to 2lb.

So, foregoing a guide, I believe Iceland can be done on a budget (at current exchange rates).

cheers, D

Some cracking fish there Dunbar. Thanks for sharing the information on the fishing costs too. Been in Iceland before, unfortunately it wasn't viable to fish during that trip. May take a trip back for some fishing now!
