Default Big Moth, any ideas?

My lad just found this huge green moth in the garden, freshly emerged as it's wings were still flaccid. I've never seen one like it before. Looks like a Vulcan bomber! Anyone able to give it a name?

How about Bob?

It is a hawk moth, probably a Lime Hawk Moth.

Bob, the Lime Hawk Moth it is then, or Bobbie if she's a girl!

Thanks,

Yup, it's a hawk moth. They're very rare in the UK I believe.

My wife has a horror of moths. I'm wondering whether the amusement I would get from sending her that photograph is worth the inevitable revenge I would suffer

I couldn't resist sending the pics to a lepidopteraphobe I know.
It's called aversion therapy!
