Bumps is on a distinguished road
Default Early Season Chalkstream Heaven

A few pics of my first outing on the River Meon on Tuesday. No fish caught (despite taking over an hour stalking one big brownie) but worth it just to be in such a lovely place for the day. For me, this is what it's all about.

Top of the beat looking south

Same spot looking to the northern boundary of the beat

Quick stop for lunch on the bridge

The view north from the bridge - not a bad place to eat!

The view south from the bridge - into Middle Earth and the best of the beat by far

Further into heaven

And more

Thanks for looking. Shame there weren't any fish to show you

That's just my sort of river, you are so lucky!

I know, I am extremely lucky to have this on my doorstep. Believe me I don't take it for granted. It's just the most fantastic trout country. I spent the whole day wading and walking the banks, and a while over the same pool trying for that big brownie (I'll be back for ya big fella!). The solitude is fantastic and it's just nice to stop and breathe it all in for a while. It's the first time I've fished this particular beat, but it won't be the last! However, my 8'6" rod was a bit of a limitation in areas (I went for that as it was really windy at the open top end of the beat), but in the shelter of the trees a 7'6" 3wt is all you need (and is on the shopping list!)

Thanks again for looking and sharing a place of such beauty with me.

Oh Joy (maybe)!! I've got a mate who is a member. he's given me a guest ticket at Netheravon in the past and maybe he can get me one for this little gem as well.

Very nice photos Bumps, looks idyllic.
I expected to see more foliage on the trees, being so much further south , but about the same as North Lakes.
Hope you fool the big fellow.

Sewinbasher,

Think your mate may be a member of the Services Fly Fishing Association, whereas this is part of the Portsmouth Services Fly Fishing Association. We don't have any water on Netheravon, but would be no bad thing!
