Default Loch Awe

Ben Cruachan from the bank of Loch Awe.

Hell of a time driving there in really thick mist. Clear skies, bright sunshine and near frozen cold water never helped with the fishing.

Default too many places

Any of the bigger bays if you are fishing from the bank especially the ones with small rivers/streams running in to the Loch. Most also have plenty of spots to pitch a tent and no-one bothers you as-long as you clear up after yourselves. Last time i went camping there i spent 30 mins clearing up empty cans and bright orange wind breakers that Ned's had left behind. Thankfully they only appear in the warmer months and seem to be in less number each year. You know the saying "Lock **** Awe" man yi catch nuthin ere man am no goin bak ere man. Praise the midges they have their uses.

It always amazes me the amount of leeches that slither around the shore line and in the water just off the shore lovely things that crawl up your waders given the chance and some big buggers to.

Loch Awe can always surprise you i once caught a 3lb Perch while fishing for Pike.

Enjoy.

Dont go up the trodden south side road , go over to the far side near Killchrenan etc . There is plenty off wee bays just of the beaten track that doesn,t seem to get many NED,S as truescot calls them . Better fishing as well . We spent opening day last week going in and out the wee bays that side and ended up with 13 between us , with the biggest at just under 8lb , obvisouly one of the escapees from Etive that happened last year . But as stated it can be a very dour place at times . If you fancy a bash at the broonies , head up for loch Avich , cracking wee loch..

Southside is the dalavich side mate , its the first road you come to when going from the central belt , hence its always busier and easier for camping . but if you want to get away from the norm head for loch awe village , the shop sells permits and they will tell you where to go on that side , its maby further to walk from car etc , but much better fishing . im up there nearly every other week , just pm nearer the time and i will try and help you regarding wheres fishing etc

That would be fantastic Stevie, i was up that way last weekend with the wife and kids in the car just for a "drive" (dont think that washed with her indoors, she knew exactly why we were going) so had a good look about, one spot i found was about 5 miles past portsonnachan hotel, looked a lovely area to camp, there was an island but just a few feet from the shore line, seen people camping there and a few other spots on the way down, so that side of the loch is best then, i thought portsonnachan was on the south side or am i just getting myself confused, lol

The place you seen was portensherrich , the farmer lets you put tents , caravans etc there for a small fee . The portsonachan side is the south side mate yes . When you come up from inverary just keep following the road and it takes you round to loch awe village . Thats the good thing about a loch that size there are plenty of little bays for camping , really is gods country..
