Default Couple of bugs

It was too nice to bother fishing today so I did a bit of bug hunting instead. Now, I've got a rough idea but I ain't no entomologist, so I'm looking for someone on here to tell me what these fellas are.....

I had got that far . They're both substantially different though - what are the adults?

The bottom one looks like an Ecdyonurus nymph, possibly venosus, although the drawing I have has three tails and that looks to have two. The first could be Heptagenia lateralis, both common in stony rivers and streams.

No expert just looking at my copy of 'A key to the nymphs of British Ephemeroptera' by T.T.Macan.

It did have three tails, it's just that my 'assistant' was a bit heavy handed

Terry Cousin is yer man for this one.

For what it's worth, here's my tuppence:

Photo 1 - I'd put money on that being rithrogena semicolorata, the olive upright. It's not dead easy to tell from the photo, but the giveaway appears to be the 'cutaway' eye shape, filamentous gill plates and dark spot in the middle of each femur.

Photo 2 - Tricky. Not able to identify from gill configuration but looks like ecdyonurus. I'd agree with Fishtales - probably venosus or maybe torrentis.

Matt

Is the first picture a Baetis Nymph? The second one could be a Heptagenid Nymph? but I'm no expert.
