Cool Opening day photos Linlithgow Loch

My club had 5 boats here yesterday and it was a good day had by almost all. 9am-4pm £40 a boat. 6 fish limit then 6 c&r. We headed off to the east end of the loch as the wind had been blowing there all week so we anticipated there to be fish. There was, but myself and my boat partner Derek didn't have a lot of joy. Derek took one on a cormorant after about half an hour but it went quiet for us after that. There were fish getting caught on a couple of the other boats and I believe one guy had his six well before 12.

We tried a couple of other spots but ended up at the top end of the loch and out of the wind. Derek hit two fish on two casts and was three fish up on me. I changed from an intermediate to a singer with an orange blob and a cats whisker booby. I soon took two fish on the blob, these fish put up a great scrap and had tails like spades! I took one quite far out as I started my retrieve and it hit the fly like a train and I got a fright as I was talking to Derek. The line shot out of my hand too! I also lost a good fish, I am guessing 4lb ish as it leapt out of the water a few times and I couldn't get the line tight quick enough.

Only down side was a good few cormorants and a number of fish that had been damaged as a result. Make that two downsides, the other - my **** is sore from sitting in that boat all day! Will bring a cushion next time, don't have a fancy boat seat!!

On the whole, a great day out for my first boat outing and I owe alot to Derek who was a fountain of knowledge, tips and advice.

Lake of Mentieth in a fortnight!

Here are yesterdays photos:

I note that 3 out of your 4 fish have cormorant marks.

Yes Jim they did have Cormorant marks, two actually had puncture wounds too, one of which was right through the flesh and when I gutted it there was damage inside the fish. Never realised what a pain they are till I saw for my own eyes.

Sunburstmclaren - the photos actually add a few pounds in Dereks defence!! They aren't a fair reflection of this athlete!

Mitch - can't remember if I saw your reply on that post I will need to have a look for it and get back to you!
