Default 2009 - The season starts

Liffey, last Sunday - opening day.

River was very high - at least 1ft up on normal March levels and was pretty dark. Fished from 10am to almost 4pm. Was freezing by towards the end.

Czech nymph'd for a bit, then tried lures and finally spiders.

Caught on a snappy poodle...

Thanks for the link, I had great success on something similiar on my local river last year especially in high water fished on a midge tip, caught some clonkers too,who cares if its glorified spinning as some would say

I made it out on the Liffey myself, with Otter, on Sunday and Monday. The river was up about 2.5 feet when we arrived at about 10am on Sunday, but dropped back to normal levels as the day progressed, the ESB had flooded it the night before. Very cold both days with not much happening, no hatches and only the very odd rise, I had one 14" trout on Sunday and a 12" and 9" on Monday, all to nymphs. It was very hard going, and its not going to get any easier until it warms up a bit, still it was great to be back out again.
