Cool New toy- Okuma Helios

Hi Guys

This is my new reel a Okuma Helios 8/9 loaded with 100 yards of Airflo 30lb bright orange backing (very inconspicuous ) and a pitsford 9# floater. Just waiting on the rod now to go with it

This being for my heavy rod pike/swff i used a different method on the end instead of whipping on a loop of nylon, ive stripped and stitched a loop in the braid then whipped over and coated it in aqua sure, i must say its very neat and i will simply loop to loop my 20lb leader on to it.

Ive loaded my spare spool with medium sink line and the same backing i need to get another spool.

Have to say im very impressed with this reel i cant believe its been or being discontinued

brilliant reels. great value for money, have used that same model on three saltwater trips to cuba and found it to be excellent . had a big bone run through a mangrove and the length of a football field before the guide and myself got the rod through the mangrove ripping line off all the time in fits and starts and the reel performed brilliantly.
wrecked a line on a mangrove one morning after bones and at lunch the guides told us the tides were going to be good for big tarpon, i needed a 500 grain sink tip for the channell we were to fish so i put it on the helios. true to thier words the guides were right and the tarpon turned up i stuck a fish approx 50 lbs and the reel handled that too. i think the reel is very aesthetic and if it did not have the okuma name on it which probably turn a lot of tackle tarts away would have been a much bigger seller.
hope you get to have as much fun with yours as i have with mine .
