Default Pentax Optio W30i help please

Hello all,

Firstly, if this isn't posted in the correct sub section then mods feel free to move.

OK, problem I'm finding with the aforementioned camera is when set to "Auto" the time it takes to focus and finally take a bl**dy picture seems to be a good 3 - 4 seconds, sometimes longer....usually when the moment has gone

Any suggestions as to speeding it up and actually being able take a picture of what I'm supposed to be looking at within a reasonable time scale??

Ive tried other settings but to be honest the quality dropped i.e. blurring or whatever. Never been good with cameras either!

Your help as always is appreciated!!

Many digital cameras suffer from the Fox Talbot effect... ie time lag. I had a Sony digi camera originally and it was great for evrything bar moving shots... you had to guess where the subject would be and then shoot! Bit hit and miss. Many moons ago I did freelance work for magazines and had a 35mm Nikon F4S which used to shoot something ridiculous like 8 fps... just pick the best shot.

I then bought a Rollei digi cam a DK4010 http://a.img-dpreview.com/news/0411/...dk4010-001.jpgwhich is not quite an SLR but not a compact... that shoots at 2.5fps with no lag... I've also found that by switching off the review of the photo it assists greatly.

When choosing a digi camera for me the response times are more important than megapixels... beyond 6mp it becomes irrelevant anyway.

Hope that helps

Thanks for that Offshore, I'll try the photo reveiw thing first to see if that works.

I only intended to use it for the fishing (being waterproof an all) and for quick snaps if I got a fish etc, but it does take pretty good pics and trying to get the weans to smile for 5 seconds and keep facing me is a mare

Slightly off topic, where abouts offshore are you, I'm currently down here in Brazil, 38° on the back deck today...no good for a jock...

Have you tried keeping it in the sports mode.It seems to be a bit quicker.
