Last July/August I had three of the best days fishing of my life. I stayed in the Spanish Pyrenees, near Jaca. The Scenery was magnificent, the fish beautifull, the water clear, and the guide (Ivan) was superb superb. Here are some photo's of one of those days. We took a 4X4 into a national park, then drove up a rocky track into the valley (this was locked, the guide had to get permission for a key). Followed by a 30/40 minute walk. We caught some nice fish mainly on Dries (BIG grasshoppers, Wullfs, Stimulators etc) and a few nympths. The fish were really biting in the morning and died off a bit in the afternoon, but It was a great day.
These were taken on a different day, further down the mountains, on the edge of the plain. The fish here were much bigger (I saw an estimated 8LB, Ivan himself was just a bit impressed with this.) and much fussier. We were forced to go down to 6x and micro dries at time. One fly might work, while the same pattern with a slightly different coloured wing wouldn't at all. I learnt how fussy and spooky trout can be. Our last evening was particularly frantic, loads of decent fish being taken on a mayfly imitation. With a few bigger ones being broken off on the light tippet and 10ft rod. But a thunderstorm stopped us getting to the pool where the promised big ones lived!
I'd recommend this part of the world to any one, in particular a fly fisher. It was truly some of the greatest fishing I've experienced. The guide also taught me a lot (he spoke reasonable English which helps.). He showed me loads of techniques and patterns. If anyone wants more details, PM me. Oh and if your in the French Pyrenese, I'd come over for a day, it was amazing how much better the weather was when you crossed the border, and it's pretty much all C&R in Spain.
Hope you enjoy the pictures,
