Wow that was easy!

The river is not renowned for salmon, but there are trout in places.

The pic reminded me of when we stayed in a pub in Stamford when we were fishing in the final of the Hardys at Rutland....canny remember the name of the pub but the landlords name was Nev....big fat greasy guy... Anyway the river at the back of the pub looked just like that.

Hello M8,

I was wondering that too because there are no distinguishing landmarks like a distinctive bridge, very distinctive Ivy Covered wall, almost unseen building that in fact forms the river wall / bank and as for that very common octagonal kinda shaped extension thingy with a spire next to it that you see all over the place, just how Jimmy was able to narrow it down to one river beats me totally.

Personally I think you should have made it a bit easier but I've never been there.

Yes it does, on the corner opposite the George. If the picture i have posted was a wider angle you would be able to see it, its right on the right hand side of the bridge. Or it was, its been done over, its now a Pizza Express (3 or 4 years since). Stamford is a great town for a pub crawl, the Anchor used to be about mid point on our adventures.

We couldny get decent digs elsewhere because of the Hadleigh horse trials or some bollox,so we had to settle for Nevs joint,it was a rockers type of pub.....I felt quite at home....
Nev was a bit of a character......tried to tell us that the carp were breeding with the trout in the Welland....aye right mate
He was justly proud of his huge full English breakfasts which we all struggled to eat in the morning.....especially after watching him picking his nose and scratching his erse.....then handing me the plate.....
