Unhappy Heron killed my frog

Seen this bird in my back garden this morning, then i noticed it had something in its mouth. Its killing the poor frogs from my pond. I took this picture through a window and its around 100yards away. How do you keep them birds away? My goldfish have went missing too

Can't you shoot it , paint it black and tell everyone that you've bagged a cormorant ??

Make the edges of the pond difficult for wading, landing and taking off again. Run mono around the edges at different heights so he will bump into it as he approaches the pond, they are awkward fliers at the best of times and they dont like hard to access ponds. If that doesnt work just shoot the b@stard..

Put a wire about 6" high round the pond to stop them wading in, they cannot climb over the wire.

Get a cat like this. As you can see he already ate one heron ...

... or wire mesh ... whatever you prefer.

The frog was probably drowning and he is actually saving it!

Matt,
I would imagine at this time of year, and in these conditions, that the frog was hibernating. The heron has probably come across it while rooting about in the silt at the bottom of the pond or in the leaf litter nearby. Loosing the odd fish is part of the price of having a pond that attracts wildlife to your garden. In my opinion one of the main reasons for having a garden pond.

Goldfish seem particularly vulnerable, mine vanish within days. But I have kept orfe, roach, golden rudd and tench for a few years now. Still lose the odd one though.
