Beautiful fish. Always imagined them looking like a wild rainbow, but that one looks like polished steel. You can see where the name comes from.

I understand that, like our own sea trout, steelhead darken in colour as spawning time approaches. The fish shown above is very fresh but will no doubt take on a differnet colour the longer it spends in the spawning stream. Here's one taken in August from the shore of Lake Erie, prior to running the stream ....

That is also a beautiful fish.

Loopy,
Just thought my fossil photo was feeling a bit tired, hence the coelocanth. Last years photo of a poppy on top my fossilised fish now looks a bit naff I think. Really like the coelocanth though and he will return, until christmas at least.

This one was caught last week on the Deschutes about 170 miles up from the sea, A good friend of mine was the guide,
