View across the boat moorings and the top end of Loch Bhac.
My mate and I like to get up there at least once a season....nice place to be,very peacefull and pretty steady fishing.Nice wee rainbows 1lb 4ozs to 1lb 12ozs on average, just the right size for that water type....no need for any silly lumps.
Standard Stamp Bhac Rainbow
It turned out to be totally cloudless with long flat spells or a light and variable (very) breeze at best.Very difficult to set up any kind of coverage plan of the water as the breeze would never be in the same direction for any more than five minutes when it did give us a wee puff.
There was only the occasional oncer showing every now and then but we both decided to grind it out with dries. It was fairly slow going but if you could get the flies in front of a riser nicely, they were keen to take them.
I chose black flies because firstly, black stands out well in the stark bright light and secondly Bhac looks like one of those waters where the fish will see a fair amount of terrestrials on the menu.Having said that the water surface was very clean and the only fly that seemed to be around were very small buzzers.
A Hot One
I found that most of the fish were coming to a bulky size 12 bibio hopper on the dropper rather than the slim raider style emerger on the tail.I wondered if an even bigger fly on the cast would increase the number of out the blue chances because up untill this point everything we had caught had to be covered....which is what ye want of course but it was just a wee bit slow.I stuck on a B-400 size 10 monstrosity which is basically a cdc winged stimulator. This worked a treat in that more fish were now coming blind to the cast and the pace picked up a bit.
Very pleasant in the sunshine during the day but the temperature plummeted in the evening due to the big open sky.Despite the cold there was a cracking rise which lasted a good hour or so before it was time to pack in......cracking wee loch well worth a visit.
