Default The Coln

Managed to sneak away from the house and spend a few hours on the Coln yesterday. Was running a little brown but fishable.

Here's a coulpe of pics.

Mat,

Are there any day ticket stretches of the Coln, apart from the Bull Hotel water?

Many thanks,

Fished the Coln at Fairford for the first time today - river was running very high and fast and there was a fair bit of colour (which got worse as the day progressed) and a strong breeze which made casting difficult. It was hard work, but managed a few grayling and a couple of nice wild brownies - all on nymphs/bugs.

Well done Neil. Looks similar conditions to when we fished it Saturday.

Nice grayling

Many thanks,
You can fish the Williamstrip Estate water (tickets available at the tackle shop in Cirencester) on a day ticket as well as the short stretch in Bibury (day and half day tickets available from the Swan Hotel).
Both stretches have an embarrassment of trout and quite a few grayling.
The Bibury stretch is pretty public and you are more than likely to be fishing to a coach load of Japanese tourists. There a quite a few escapee rainbows from the trout farm, I pulled out a 6lb fish a few years ago.
The Williamstrip stretch is not typical of the Coln as it is quite deep and slow but is very heavily stocked.
Note that the 'bailiff' who looks after the Bibury stretch is possibly the rudest, most miserable and over efficacious person I have had the misfortune to come across in my entire life fishing. If he approaches you to check your credentials, ask him to show you his first as he will inevitably have left them at home. Be sure to make his return journey back to you as long as possible by moving to the other end of the beat... (Rant over).

Andy
