Default Yesterday and today on the river Wear

hi all ,

after all the rain and floods i finally managed to get out yesterday for an hour or so , altho the river was still running very high above normal level and stained it was still sort of fishable , well nearly as it was blowing a gale which made casting upstream a nightmare .

i also went out this afternoon and stayed till dusk as the wind had dropped and river dropped slightly .

should be perfect conditions either tomorrow or saturday .

anyway heres a few pics taken from yesterday and this evening on the Tudhoe and Page bank stretches of the river Wear .

had about a dozen trout and 2 grayling in the trips , atleast the grayling seem to be breeding anyway .

Nice pics Sid.

I've done a bit on the Wear over the years - its an underrated river (except by those who fish it regularly).

thanks david ,

yes your right it is a very underrated river (not by me though),somedays i might not see another angler all day when i go out .
my club ,ferryhill and dist AC has upped the size limit to 12" for a takeable brown trout now , which in my opinion is a great decision .
i just wish they would ban fishing for trout with bait altogether , as soon as the coarse season starts some of the bait fishers use this as an excuse to take their limit of 2 trout a day .
there is still a good head of wild browns in the river and every now and again a 3lb fish makes an appearance , there is still some nice grayling in the river too , not as many as years ago though .although i had 2 the other night about 4" long so atleast they are still reproducing which is a good sign .
the wear is also a good salmon and seatrout river , don't fish for them myself but maybe one day i will .
for £45 a year for about 10 miles of water on the wear + stretches on the tyne and tees you can't go wrong
