Default First Pike

Although it wasn't caught fly fishing i caught it lure fishing on my local canal. It weighed about 3lb and smashed into my rapala shad rap.
Certainly makes a change from trout

I am sure it will not be your last. They are a superb species and lure fishing is a great way to catch them. On the right type of lure tackle pike that size are great fun and a worthy target. Your fish is beautiful, but all pike are. A truely wild fish.

Congratulations on joining the world of predator hunters.

Nice fish. Our lakes around here are stuffed with them,I'm going to have to make an effort to have a bash at them.
Kcon do you do much piking?
I know summer is a great time to fish for them, how do you think you'd get on fly fishing for them in winter,i've done a very limited amount years ago,but was all dead baits etc, just curious if they'd go for the fly as enthusiastically as they do in summer

I only started piking properly about a week ago so i'm not sure what it's like in the winter. I went to the canal last night with a new spinning rod and had about two jacks in one hour

Nice one, well I've heard it said if they'll take a bit of plastic or metal, they'll definitely have a fly,so give it a bash.

Lovley fish, lovley species!

I fell in love with pike years ago, unfortunatley i havnt caught one in a while! They are in big decline on the lower bann, it has got scary! I hope it doesnt get any worse, they are true warriors!

On my local canal, there were a group of lads out dead baiting, and only one of the guys hooked fish. The rest of his mates were using sprats, mackeral etc. He was using sausages, with a small spray of WD40 on them He only hooked two fish, but they were the only two fish of the day and were both well into double figures!

You think you could cast a sausage with a fly rod?
