Default Loch Watten

Visited Loch Watten a couple of weeks ago after befriending a few picts in the Cairngorms. They were savage and unkempt when we found them hypothermic,wild-eyed and roaming the hills aimlessly after consuming several gallons of some feindishly strong pictish hallucinogenic brew. Midlander and I soon removed the rough edges though and had them trained and tamed in a jiffy. They made excellent companions despite the language barrier, and their ancient coracle skills came in reet handy on legendary Loch Watten...

You wouldn't think so to look at this band of merry gents...but there's a few picts in there amongst 'em.

Even though we were blessed with superb conditions for our 3 day sesh, the fishing was trickier than usual according to the picts. Well, if a dozen fish a day being watched by Otters,Ospreys and Black-throated Divers, and being treated to a biblical sunset on our last night is 'tricky',then give me downright devilishly dodgy anytime.

No shoppery on these next shots either... no need. Dare I say it? Twas almost spiritual....and I think all the crew got a fish or two during this sequence....

Cheers Mascas... hope I gave some sense of how the sunset progressed over an hour or so. I was chuffed with the first shot which is monochrome by comparison to what was to follow. A real treat, and a pretty special memory.

Beautiful landscapes, great photography. Cheers Scratch.

First photograph is a belter, even compared to those beautiful fish.

Aren't they all ?

Seriously though rebel raider, I would have thought Watten had it's own strain many many moons before man walked in those parts.... could be wrong though,I'm no Watten expert.

Many thanks to Scratch and Midlander for joining us up on Watten and for playing their part on making it a successful trip...the fishing was tougher than usual but we all got on like a house on fire and had some great laughs.....

Here are some more pics from the same trip.

HOLY F*CK Jim you caught that last sunset at the right time .... the piggin loch is on fire

Nice work Jim.... Is that an ancient Pictish burial mound in the middle of the Loch? Maybe some of your forefathers are at peace in the mound after meeting a grizzly end at the hands of less tolerant 'men of the angle' from south of the wall?

Top trip,top men.

...got a new net today by the way
