Default Tarbert & Islay

Some pics from a little trip to Tarbert and Islay last week. Unfortunatley I didn't get to fish any of the Islay lochs, but discovered that there's more to life than fly fishing.... like teaching me boy how to chuck some feathers out and wind 'em back in (result - Mackerel for tea on't barbie ) distillery tours, and chucking yer kid in the Atlantic before the little pest has woken up
One or two cliches from Tarbert harbour I'm afraid .....got to be done though innit.

My personal fave from Tarbert harbour....

Rob,

That sir is art. Brilliant. My favourite is the one with the boats and the purple tinge. Beautiful.

From those of us who simply 'point and shoot', thank you.

Nice pictures Scratch,

I've not been to Islay for many years, looks like you certainly enjoyed the wiskey trail!

Cheers girls... twas a fun trip... despite the lack of fly action I may give it a whirl another day should I ever manage to escape from Brisbane.

Am I right in saying that it is an Ardbeg product that is generally accepted as the best Scotch Whisky?

No such thing as 'the best' mate, all down to personal taste. Most of the Islay malts are smokey, peaty, seaweedy almost 'medicinal' full-on serious whiskies, with Ardbeg being pretty much at the top of the full-on league, and Bunnahabhain being at the foot of the table and alltogether more user freindly. If the Islay malts are your bag, then the Ardbegs make spectacular drinking. Personally,I love 'em all...and the lowlands...and the Speysides etc etc, with the only exception being Glenfiddich which is utter dog p!ss.
