Cool Fresh salmon from the river bush, 7lb bar of silver!

Last friday, i landed this 7lb bar of silver, caught on a bunch of blackhead worms. Then on saturday i caught another two bars of silver, the first of 5 pound and the second of six pounds. I let these two continue their journey up stream

Here is my first fish of the season, he put up a superb fight and really was a delight to catch, as i seen him turn for the worms in the water and charge upstream! Hope you like it!

What are we supposed to say.
Well done........Why . It is a fairly small fish, it was caught on a bunch of worms. Oh it is fresh, does that make a difference.
The fact that this is a fly fishing site, would that not make a difference.

Now if you had said
My First Fish

Got it on an Ally Shrimp in low water too. Released to fight another day I am really pleased with myself
I would have replied
Well done that man
but I won't.
Sorry buddy but you did ask.
Tight lines

Mate i would have being fishing the fly if my rod hadnt being snapped in half the week before! Even if i did have the fly rod, the water was very high on friday and it wouldnt have being easy!

Fairly small fish? A grisle of 7 pound is what i would call a good fish! I put two back in the next day, kept my first one for the family, is that such a big deal? I am all for catch and realease, but the way your are speaking is just ridiculous!

So because it was caught on worms, no credit can be given? That is fly fishers snobbery of the highest level!

It was a very hard days fishing, only few fish in the system as the bush is quite a late river. Worming takes as much skill as fishing the fly, sure anyone can throw a worm in the water, but fishing it properly take years of experience!

If anyone is as offended as highlander is by this thread, please remove it. I wasnt expecting a response like his....

I can appreciate your fish mate, having fished the Roe in Limavady last weekend, loads of water down and hard going! I would have been more than happy to land that. As for the snobbery amongst some fly fishermen it is something that is seen all to often on parts of the Roe. Unfortunately it happens but personally I think fishing is fishing in all its forms and although I prefer fly fishing I am only to happy to drown a few worms when given the chance. So well done that man and nice to see you let the other two go! Well done, nice one mate!

Hi m8,
Nice fish.
Maybe you are getting a bit of stick as the site is titled "Flyforums"
Now if it was "Wormforums" I think you would be ok.

Congratulations on your fish but 7lbs is just a grilse and nothing too special........ except to you.

You are of course perfectly entitled to use a worm if the rules allow, and perfectly entitled to take the fish and well done for returning the others - no problem there at all, the main problem with some people is that this is a fly fishing forum and anglers posting piccies of dead fish caught on worm are not overwhelmingly welcomed, even if fly wasn't an option on the day. I love fly fishing and get the greatest pleasure from it but I am perfectly happy to pick up the spinning rod if the conditions don't favour the fly.

We also have the C&R police on the forum who think that no wild fish should be killed. I personally take no wild brown trout at all and haven't for many years, a couple of smallish sea trout and maybe a salmon per season, if I am lucky enough to get them, but would absolutely defend the rights of others to take fish if the rules allow. If necessary it is the rules that need to change and no angler should be criticised for staying within the rules.
