was on the carron friday night with an other member who was on fire with his catch rate of wee broonies JS. i caught a new species to add to my fishing cv very nice looking fish around the 1.5lb mark took a couple of snaps and carefully returned made my night

Hi Cumbrian, that's an unusual fish. What are they? They look very similar to the Shad that we get here on the Herefordshire Wye catchment. The Shad are a member of the Herring family, that enter fresh water to spawn.

Thanks for that Jim, that's a completely new species for me. I wasn't even aware of their existence. They remind me of the Arctic Char, that are found in the Lakes. Not by appearance, but in their mystique.

from what i can gather they a scottish variety of the freshwater houting_a white fish with a adipose fin they grow to 18" around 2lb and were deleted from the fishery records in oct 1991 and made a protected species it fell to a wet spider on a short dropper and put up a good fight just looked at your post jim good fish also seemingly rare to catch but quite a few have been brought to the net this year to date
