Default Gillaroo Trout River Drowes.

Here is a beautiful gillaroo trout i caught from the river drowes on saturday fishing deep with hares ears and czech nymphs. It put up a good fight on my 3 weight rod.
Guess the weight?

I'd say 1 lb 9 oz.

Can't really say, as there isn't anything to compare it to.

How did you know it's a 'gillaroo'; by gutting the trout?

Beautiful looking trout. I will go for 1lb 4ozs. I used to fish the Drowes for salmon many years ago but have not had a chance to get back since Thomas Gallagher died. Does it get many trout these days?

Puss,
You can tell it is a Gillaroo because of the red spots. When you fish for them on Melvin they lie in the shallow water whereas the Sonnaghan are in the deep water.

Nice fish Matt. I'd go for the 1/2lb mark.

Thumbs up Nice wee fish

Given the background moss and grass, I'll go for 4 oz.

It's a beautiful wee fish.
