Hi all.
The day has finally happened!
I caught my first wild Scottish Brown Trout on the fly today.
I was fishing for about 30 mins before I had my 1st knock on a Bibio Bumble.
Next cast - another knock then several more casts after that nothing was happening.
I then changed to a Peter Ross (which was expertly tied by Doonicus) and on my 3rd cast just as the fly hit the water I seen a ripple on the surface right where my fly landed then about 2 seconds later - BANG! I was in!
I played the fish by hand rather than use the reel and I must say that the power in the wild brownies is a joy to behold. I have only caught stocked rainbows on the fly before and the fight this little thing gave me was a lot better than my best rainbow which was 2lb.
I am absolutely over the moon and as we were leaving my stepdad pointed out that Olives were starting to appear on the surface so I might try one of those flies the next time I am up the hills.
A big thanks has to go to Sam (Doonicus) for expertly tying the flies that I use. Without his help and input I would have never have caught my first wild brown trout.
Needless to say that after the picture was taken the fish was released unharmed back into the reservoir to fight another day.
Enjoy
