YES!!! - at last, after spending a fortune on guided days out for bugging, a nice male Grayling.

In fact, this was the first of four fish in 3 hours - on a small river with the help of John Tyzack.

Cold day with hoar frost on the trees and ice in the shallows of the river but breaking a year or more of blanking when fishing bugs made the day out worthwhile.

If truth be told, roll on the Spring when I can get back to some "proper" fly fishing - with Spiders and Dries!

Many thanks again to John Tyzack.

Kind regards

Phil.

Gus, not the Calder - a small river nearer John's home .... south of Manchester.

Dave - the forecast on Tuesday night was for minus 6 or 7 degrees - I had a two hour drive from home to meet up with John Tyzack and drove through thick fog and snow showers and past beautiful hoar frost on the trees and fields...

The temp was still below freezing when fishing I think - the edges of the river were still frozen solid at 3 pm and ice was still on the branches on some of the weirs on the river.

JT expected a double figure catch on Wednesday but the water was VERY clear and low (ish) and ... very cold so no-where near as many fish showing.

Kind regards

Phil.
