I've just received the complete set of DVDs "New Zealand Trophy Waters"

Unbelieveable fishing even if it is way beyond my skill level.

Why is the da*n place so far away...the unfairness of it all

Ah, Trophy waters DVD set is a bit special. A lot of those waters are no longer fishable or open to fish easily. Some are closed by F&G to prevent Didymo incursion, one or two the landowner has banned public crossing his land because they were swamped after the videos. Only way in is walking up river for lots of kms.

Some of them are very far into the mountains.

The kahawai is from the mouth of the Rakaia. You could ask about the location of the other fish but I can't tell you where it was, somewhere on the west coast of NZ. ;-)
