Default weir today gone tomorrow

This was the 200 year old weir on the river Nore at Thomastown.
The river has been high since last year and we knew that a part of the wall had gone back in November but with all that water we could not get in to repair it then came the BIG flood last month now I think its beyond repair .
OK we may have lost a bit of heritage but after what I saw today we have
gained a new fly stream, the pond above the weir has dropped over 2' 6" and the run in the new stream is about 150 yards, I will let you know how it fishes
on March the 17 th (opening day on the Nore)

Part of The new stream, this was once a slow deep pond locally known as Katty Kellys

Hi rrw35 we were planning to build a rock ramp behind that weir next year but mother nature gave us a hand but we have 3 more obsolete weirs to deal with check out this web site www.noresuirrivertrust.org we had to put in a rock ramp on the Kilkenny weir in 2005/2006 as the “new fish pass” did not work

Thats a good result there. I wish a few of the weirs on our local stream suffered the same fate......

Saw the fish pass on the news, what a joke!

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Update on that weir at Kilkenny City after long battle the "fish pass "was removed and the hight of the weir was reduced then a rock ramp was constructed at the back to allow not only salmon, but eels, trout and lamprey
access to their spawning grounds
